HMN Architects partnered with Olathe Medical Center to provide full architectural, interior design, and planning services on a building addition and renovation to the Kansas Cardiovascular Center as part of their $100 million multi-year expansion plan.

The newly renovated facility features a state-of-the-art hybrid electrophysiology lab with technology that provides patients with improved care within the existing catheterization lab.

Other features of the project included entry vestibule, reception, waiting spaces, Holter and Stress Test rooms, and renovation to surgery department staff locker rooms.

By providing a multi-discipline Hybrid EP Lab, the hospital can keep a patient in one space if the scope of a procedure changes from minimally invasive to more invasive, without the need to transport a patient and expose them to additional risk.

This project’s success can be attributed to the preparation and management of the four phases of construction. Maintaining access to designated areas during each phase in the busy surgery department was of paramount importance to staff to continue to provide patient care.

This coordination continued with the equipment vendor and the hospital’s biomedical engineering team. From the selection of equipment; to the structural support at the ceiling for overhead elements; to the raised access flooring needed in the control room, all these pieces worked in concert based on a unified approach between client, design team, and contractor.
