HMN Architects provided architectural and interior design services for the Central Care Cancer Center in Bolivar, Missouri. The building is a two-story, steel framed structure with brick veneer. It is positioned to maximize views overlooking the valley to the north.

The central reception desk is in the two-story open atrium space. On the main floor, there is a resource and education center, lounge, public restrooms and a large conference center shared with the medical clinic and Citizens Memorial Healthcare. An oncology medical clinic with exam rooms, counseling rooms and various support spaces are also found on this level.

The cancer treatment center is on the second floor and has a single linear accelerator vault for radiation therapy, on-site CT simulator and dosimetry, as well as chemotherapy treatment areas, exam rooms, offices, a conference room, a staff lounge, and support spaces.

Treatment spaces were positioned along the north to offer patients views of the valley. The adjacent glass wall overlooking the lobby was frosted and a decorative pattern was applied to allow limited views and maintain privacy.

During the design process, the owner requested long-term planning, so a second linear accelerator could be accommodated in the future. Consequently, a modular leadlight block system was used in lieu of the traditional cast in place concrete vault. This approach substantially reduced the footprint of the vault ad allowed the contractor to accelerate the construction schedule, leading to increased savings.
