HMN Architects partnered with Citizens Memorial Healthcare on a 78,000 SF expansion to their existing 40,000 SF medical office building and ambulatory surgery center. The new addition includes an inviting building entry, an expansion of the ambulatory surgery center, food service options – including a coffee bar and deli, and numerous patient services.

The first floor of the building is comprised of the ambulatory surgery center with two operating rooms, shell space for two future operating rooms, endoscopy, radiology services, a wound care clinic with hyperbaric chambers, a surgeon’s clinic, a new board room suite and the coffee bar. The radiology department includes a PET CT, nuclear medicine, X-Ray, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultra sound, and a MRI suite.

The second floor houses a specialty clinic, blood draw lab, an optometrist clinic with an optical shop, and a hematology/bone clinic including infusion bays. The second floor is also home to a new food service area and an executive office suite.

The basement floor has been dedicated to the new data center along with IT offices and a work bench area. This floor also has a large meeting room with the ability to sub-divide the space into three different areas, providing a classroom-type setting.

A two-story curved natural stone wall highlights the lobby, main waiting, and food service areas. The natural stone is a thin stone veneer applied in an ashlar pattern. The design, combining the stone and natural wood, creates an environment that contributes to reduced stress and well-being for patients.

Beyond the services and aesthetics of the building, the new addition is beneficial to the community in allowing the hospital to better serve its patients in a rural area of Missouri. Combining day surgery, radiology clinics, and an optical center in a single building near the main hospital is a benefit for the residents of the area – by creating a “one stop shop” experience, where everything is immediately accessible.
