An Exclusive Insight from Administrative Accounting Assistant, Terry Settje

Terry Settje has been a part of HMN’s team since 2007. Over the years, Terry has grown professionally and helped make HMN more successful. We are grateful to have a fun, compassionate employee on our team.

Q: Describe HMN in your own words.

Terry Settje: HMN has been a great place to work the past nine years. I’ve learned more about the business of architecture and enjoy being busy throughout the work day. I especially enjoy the young interns HMN has hired. They have so much energy and want to learn as they work. It’s exciting to witness their enthusiasm!

Q: Describe your role at HMN.

Terry Settje: My title is Administrative Accounting Assistant. I am responsible for all accounts payable duties and assist with human resource duties. I update several accounting spreadsheets throughout the month. I maintain the new employee packets and intern packets and the HMN policy manual. I enter the HSA online contributions each month following payroll and I calculate consultant payments based on the percentage HMN is paid by clients on projects.

Q: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Terry Settje: Flexibility. In January 2015, I asked if I could start working part-time so I could pursue being a volunteer with Catholic Community Hospice. Spending more time with our grandkids was also one of the reasons I requested the change. HMN agreed that I could give it a try. I have no regrets and am grateful every day for the opportunity!

Q: What has been one of your favorite experiences so far in your career?

Terry Settje: Learning to work with so many different personalities, who all have a common goal… to make HMN a successful company and to have a good time in the process!

Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of working hours?

Terry Settje: Reading is my favorite pastime! I always have a book close by. I also enjoy knitting, volunteer work, boating and of course, spending time with my family.
