HMN Architects was engaged by the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) to transform outdated biomedical research spaces into modern, high-performance laboratory environments. The project included converting existing labs and offices across three buildings into new collaborative BSL-2 facilities, along with targeted upgrades to create additional BSL-3 research spaces. The scope also encompassed major building-system enhancements—including new fire-suppression sprinklers, high-efficiency windows, an energy-efficient roof, and new mechanical towers—to fully support the renovated research infrastructure.
