Sheriff’s Office & Jail

Callaway County approved a referendum to address two critical needs: adding a new jail and sheriff’s office, and constructing a courts administration building. The jail addition was the top priority, and HMN was selected to collaborate with the commission, sheriff, and key staff on its design. The project requirements included 120 beds, rear-chase steel cells, full compliance with federal standards, use of the entire existing site, and a layout that supported modern law enforcement practices and efficient staff workflows. Through innovative design strategies and strategic use of alternates, HMN delivered a 152-bed facility, space for highway patrol, renovations to the existing sheriff’s office, and demolition of the old jail—all within budget.
