By leveraging our experience in both healthcare and justice sectors, HMN designed Barber County’s new Public Safety Building. Working closely with county leadership, we delivered a design that met program needs and budget while complementing the 1954 courthouse and surrounding residential context.
The facility includes an ADA-compliant public entrance, secure staff entrances, and a flexible 3,450 SF space that serves as a training area, polling location, and emergency operations center (EOC). The EOC features office and storage space, an IT hub, and a warming kitchen to support operations during crises or county events. The public health wing is organized around a central nursing station with efficient access to exam rooms, education spaces, and administrative offices. A visually controlled waiting area and children’s play space ensure privacy and safety for patients while maintaining a functional workflow for staff.
Constructed with precast and poured-in-place concrete walls and a hollow-core ceiling, the building is secure, durable, and accommodates multiple county needs under one roof.
The HMN team was very responsive to our county needs. They offered suggestions and options that proved to be great choices based on their previous experience. Adam and Shawn worked well with the County Clerk, our Commission and myself to develop a successful project for Barber County and we would not hesitate to use them again on future projects in our county.
