Jail & Juvenile Detention

The Hughes County Jail and Juvenile Justice Center is perched on a hill overlooking the Missouri River, offering a scenic location while presenting unique site challenges, including a lack of roads and utilities. HMN worked with the county to construct an access road and provide the necessary infrastructure for the new facility.

The 144-bed jail features double-bunked cells in the main housing area, a 24-bed work-release dorm separated by gender, and a 16-bed juvenile detention area divided into four pods for maximum flexibility. The facility includes supervised video visitation, medical holding, a drive-through sallyport, and administrative support spaces. Alcohol and drug testing spaces, including a blood draw laboratory, were also incorporated.

Additional features include a warming kitchen for meals delivered from the nearby women’s prison. Designed with future growth in mind, the facility is expandable to 288 beds to accommodate Hughes County’s long-term needs.
