Henry County hired HMN Architects to design a 112-bed facility incorporating work-release housing, kitchen, training, and the law enforcement center; with provisions for future expansion to accommodate courtrooms and additional support services.
Prior to design, HMN assisted the county’s citizens’ jail committee in assessing the need for a new facility. Once the need was confirmed, HMN guided the county through site selection, choosing an underutilized commercial site near the historic courthouse. The team also supported the bond referendum process by providing design information, cost estimates, graphics for Q&A materials, and presentations at public hearings.
The county opted for a three-part bond referendum – covering the detention center, a justice center, and 911 expansion – with each project being a separate vote. Only the detention center vote passed, so commencement of that building began in earnest.
