Critical Access Replacement Hospital

Mercy Hospital Carthage

2008

Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital’s 56-bed replacement facility was designed to transform the patient experience by emphasizing natural light, views to nature, and adaptable care environments. Large windows overlook a four-acre pond and central healing garden, creating a calming backdrop throughout the hospital.

Patient care areas were planned for flexibility, with departments able to expand into interior soft space or exterior zones as needs change. Patient rooms maximize daylight and support family involvement through thoughtful furnishings and amenities. The new design has significantly improved satisfaction for patients, families, and staff.

A decentralized nursing model with shared support spaces, along with clearly defined “onstage” and “offstage” zones, enhances team collaboration and care delivery.

“The HMN staff is always very creative and takes the initiative to find solutions to situations that develop during construction while continuing to maintain budget constraints.”

Bob Copeland, CEO, McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital
