The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah – Family Learning Center

The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Year Completed: 2000
Size: 84,000 SF

As one of the oldest reform Jewish congregations in Kansas City, relocating to a new location was a significant endeavor. The expanding Jewish population taxed the resources of their previous facilities, so with much forethought, HMN Architects was engaged to assist in this monumental move. Through extensive design programming and multiple presentations, a new vision emerged that respected the legacy of this congregation’s heritage, while giving a fresh image to house the needed services, programs, and classes.

HMN Architects designed the 64,000 SF family learning center on the 25-acre suburban site in Overland Park, Kansas. The building includes a pre-school, general classrooms for 600+ students, multi-purpose rooms, chapel, kitchen, administration, gift shop and meeting rooms. The master plan includes a 2,500-seat sanctuary and 12,000 SF social center.

HMN also assisted the congregation art sub-committee in interviewing and selecting the ritual art designer and coordinated with the selected artist in the development and implementation of the artwork.
