Insight: Giving Back to our Community

At HMN, teamwork comes naturally. A strong sense of camaraderie is fostered through flexible schedules, company events, and office treats. Whether we are enjoying a special visit from the ice cream truck, cheering the Royals on or playing on HMN’s softball team, employees are invested in each other’s success in and out of the office.

That sense of kinship extends in our work in the community. HMN has participated in numerous charitable activities over the years, including Coats for Christmas, Canstruction, and Habitat for Humanity. We’ve also provided design services for the Hope Family Care Center, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Charlie’s House.

Recently, some of the HMN employees joined together to knit and/or crochet red newborn hats for babies born in February at local, participating hospitals. In connection with the Children’s Heart Foundation, the American Heart Association is working to raise awareness of Congenital Heart Defects. These newborn hats were given out last week to the hospitals in hopes to empower new moms to live heart healthy lives and for their newborns to do the same. The Kansas City volunteers made 6,600 hats for the Kansas City participating hospitals.

On February 2, HMN employees teamed together to bring our Pokémon GO structure to life at Oak Park Mall. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. Again, we want to thank our donors for helping us reach our goal. Special thanks to Holmes Murphy, Desco Coatings; Shaw Carpet; Hallmark Building Supplies; ISC Surfaces; Herregan Distributors; JE Dunn Construction; Brack & Associates Consulting Engineers; Inpro Corporation – Mark and Barb Hewitt; Momentum Group; and FedEx Office. From February 3 to March 3, the community will be given the opportunity to vote on their favorite structure to win the People’s Choice Award by visiting the Harvesters website.
